Korn, System Of A Down, Madness, The Offspring, Gogol Bordello, Scooter, The Prodigy, Guano Apes, Enter Shikari, Infected Mushroom, Die Antwoord,

A couple of hours later, I realized I had made a truly rookie mistake: Yes, I had purchased the kicks in my usual size . . . but these Vans were scaled to men’s sizing.I immediately hopped onto OC’s website. They were sold out. (Duh.)At this point, my only hope was to call the boutique directly — but it was only 6 a.m. in New York City, and OC doesn’t open until 11.For five hours, I waited. I told the salesperson, ‘It’s a fashion emergency.’At 10:45 a.m. NYC-time, I called OC, told the salesperson that it was a fashion emergency, and asked — by any chance — did the store have a pair of those pink beauties in stock? He put me on hold for what seemed an eternity. When he returned, he assured me he would hold the pair but couldn’t conduct an over-the-phone purchase. Once the store officially opened at 11 a.m., said purchase could be completed via a payment form (!) he would e-mail me.At this point, I was running late for a fashion show, so I told him I would call in 45 minutes. As soon as the show wrapped, I called the store back. My main man there was busy (of course), but another salesperson was happy to facilitate my purchase (yay), and could I hold for a moment? Because literally everyone and their mother was calling the boutique wanting to buy this shoe (s – – t).
But sports bras largely remained hidden under shirts until the 1999 Women’s World Cup, when American soccer star Brandi Chastain kicked a winning extra point, whipped off her shirt and spun around in her sports bra to celebrate.Snaps of the moment spread like wildfire and were seen on magazine covers and TV sets around the globe.“Brandi’s moment at the World Cup … really brought international attention [to the sports bra],” says Lawson. “It increased social acceptance. That it’s OK for us to exercise, exercise hard and show our bras.”In the 18 years since Chastain’s moment, sports bras have shifted fr om undergarments to stars of the show themselves, with the emergence of workout crop tops and strappy backs meant to draw eyes. And yet, even after 40 years of development, sports bras are still plagued with problems and often fail at their sole purpose: keeping breasts fr om bouncing around during exercise.“There is no piece of apparel more difficult to design well than a sports bra,” says Lawson. Thanks to the recent boom in athleisure, customers are demanding options that accommodate a wide range of shapes and sizes. A model claims she was offered thousands of dollars to sleep with rich men and that these propositions aren’t uncommon for young women in her industry.Jazz Egger, 20, who is based in London, believes that there is a dark and seedy undercurrent to the fashion world. According to Egger, big-time modeling agencies know what’s going on and some women can make up to $2 million for spending a night with a man.The Austrian-born beauty, who has more than 35,000 Instagram followers, first caught the attention of seedy agents last summer. After going to an exclusive London club, she was offered a modeling job wh ere she’d be invited to party on a Greek yacht alongside millionaires.Sensing that there was something weird about the offer, Egger decided to turn it down. But the following week, she claims she was approached by another man who asked her to go for dinner with a “famous actor” at a fancy restaurant. In her recently published book, “Doll Parts” (Regan Arts), Amanda Lepore claims to have “the most expensive body on Earth.” The veracity of that statement is open to interpretation, but she certainly has one of the most famously bodacious bods out there. It has not been easy for her to get there.Lepore, 49, was born a boy, grew up in Ceder Grove, New Jersey, and began transitioning by taking hormones starting at age 15. Her feminization process resembles a long, silicone-paved road that’s transported her from being a kid obsessed with Marilyn Monroe and Jayne Mansfield to becoming the toast of Manhattan nightlife (she makes her living modeling and by performing burlesque, singing and hosting events at clubs).Lepore, who first landed in the public eye in 1990 via an appearance on “The Joan Rivers Show” with NYC’s “Club Kids,” shares the procedures that got her there.“I sometimes think about doing getting more stuff done to my body, but not really,” she tells The Post. “Plastic surgery is for when you don’t like things . . . Everything I’ve got already looks so good.” “I just really focused on which characters were the same on camera and off, and really didn’t have [an] edit button,” she says. “The outline that I wrote … has absolutely nothing to do with what’s on film. Events just kept happening in these women’s lives, and we’d get on a plane and go cover it.”Many of their struggles stem from arriving home from war only to discover an America that is particularly inhospitable to women vets. They had difficulty finding jobs, homes and medical help.Engler, a talented dancer, suffers from a neuromuscular illness called myasthenia gravis that makes it tough to pursue her passion; Garcia had no permanent residence, and was forced to live away from the children she loves; and Alred’s father was murdered years earlier. Waterbury is a mom of four juggling a job as a librarian and college courses at Ohio State University.“We just became a family,” Heslov says. “They raised their right hand and offered to die for us. How could I not only have so much respect for them, but also just think they’re badasses?”While the adversity and troubles these vets face at home are extreme, the pageant uplifts them with its support and the spirit of sisterhood. Ms. Veteran America even maintains a house wh ere displaced women can live with their children for up to three years.“We are mothers, daughters, sisters and wives,” Army Maj. Jaspen Boothe, the competition’s founder, says in the film. “As a woman veteran, I’m sometimes ignored on American soil. We are not second-class veterans, we are not damsels in distress. We are warriors.”An especially badass participant is Army Spc. Marissa Strock. The competition’s second runner-up in 2013, Stock lost both her lower legs in 2005 when an IED blew up beneath the Humvee she was driving in Baghdad. Her obsession? High-heeled shoes.“Before I got my feet amputated, I had a size 11 foot,” she says, in the doc. “I was 6-foot-1, and as a chick, size 11 means you’ll never get to wear cute shoes ever.”So, she decided to look at her accident as a unique opportunity.“When [the doctors] asked me what shoe I wanted, I jumped on that like a grenade and told them that I wanted a size 9. So, now I have a whole bunch of cute shoes!” “I’m always doing research,” she says, sourcing pieces year-round from vintage stores and markets in places such as Morocco, Japan, Hong Kong, and Mykonos, Greece. She also customizes finds, adding embellishments such as lace collars and leather cuffs. For some of the more daring accessories, such as thigh-high platform boots and elaborate headgear, she suggests clients “practice” wearing the costumes around their apartment for a few hours so they won’t get cold feet before the main event.Natalia is most looking forward to “being a free spirit in the desert, without a connection to the real world,” but admits that going off the grid isn’t cheap: The entire experience, which includes her $10,000 luxury RV rental, is setting her back about $25,000.And while everyone feels like their new metal bodysuits and drop-crotch pants are second skin, Natalia is prepared to enjoy her last moments in leisurewear before she hits the playa.“I’ll be wearing sweatpants on the plane.” Bags Outlet Sale: |
